I am a scientist, but I often don't know what kind of scientist to describe myself as–I got my Ph.D. in Materials Science at UCSB, working in an organic chemistry lab doing bioelectrochemistry and characterizing synthetically modified bacteria. Now, I'm a postdoc in a mechanical engineering lab at MIT, working on engineering devices for microbiome and synthetic biology applications. My research interests lie at the biotic-abiotic interface.

I am passionate about promoting diversity in STEM, science outreach, and communication. I am also that postdoc that criticizes all the grad students' slide titles and design during group meetings and rearranged the entire lab when I got there.
